Today, four generations since its establishment, Bavik Brewery is still a family run business. Despite the many take-overs and consolidations in the beer sector, they have been careful to safeguard their independence in order to assure the quality of their beer and preserve its regional identity. As one of the largest independent breweries in Belgium, they wish to continue working to ensure their beer culture is maintained.
Bavik Premium Pilsner has been brewed since the creation of the brewery in 1894. Indeed, the emergence of the Pilsner style, only a few decades earlier in Bavaria and the Czech Republic, was one of the main reasons Mr. De Brabandere started his brewery. Bavik is a Belgian beer, and while the brewery makes no claims of crafting a German pilsner, its version is closer to the German variation of the style than the Bohemian version. This is a malt-accented pilsner with noticeable fruit notes in the aroma. The underlying fruits (apricots and peaches) make the subtle hops in this beer hard to detect. The flavor’s maltiness is rich, and while there is still a fruitiness to the taste, it isn’t as distinct as in the aroma. The hop flavor and bitterness are moderate to low, however, this beer is fresh and stimulating and a great tipple on a hot summer day!
