2012 Château Pasquet Rouge; Bordeaux, France

A family estate established in 1964 by George Pernette, Château Pasquet is run very seriously by the two sons, Michel & Jean-Francois. Château Pasquet’s wine is a complex blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and 5% each of Malbec and Petite Verdot. The vines are grown on elevated, gravelly limestone/clay slopes that overlook the Garonne river in the “Haut Benauge” section of the Entre-deux-Mers. This specific terroir is very distinctive and yields red wines with deep color and extraction, as well as great potential. Their up-to-date cellar combines thermo-regulated stainless steel vinification tanks with glass lined concrete vats and small French oak barriques (1/3 new) for aging.

Château Pasquet is what we would call one of our best finds in high quality Bordeaux over the last few vintages. Most of our importer’s allocation (for more than 10 years ) went to the Société des Bains de Mers (Groupe Alain Ducasse) in Monaco, for their by the glass and banquet needs, and to several select French retailers. Starting with the 2009 vintage our importer’s  long-term sales relationship helped him to secure some additional volume from the estate, allowing him to offer a small quantity of Château Pasquet for the American market – thereby allowing us to offer a really expressive and distinctive Red Bordeaux for you to discover.

The 2012 Château Pasquet boasts an impressive dark ruby/purple color  followed by a very dense, smoky and full nose of cassis, dark berries and toffee. The generous palate offers well-balanced fruit, dusty tannins, some  minerality along with dark plum and black currants and an irresistible charm. It is full-bodied, supple textured and ideal for drinking over the next 5-7 years.
