2013 Riebeek Cellars Sauvignon Blanc; Swartland, South Africa

riebeekSBweb

The vineyards of Riebeek Cellars lie in a richly diverse area in terms of soil, climate and topography.  Their vineyards are situated at heights that vary from 180 feet above sea level to 900 feet against the slopes of the Kasteelberg mountains. Because of the topography, the soils display the same rich variety, with Oakleaf and Dundee alluvial soil formed by sediment from die Berg River to Swartland and Glenrosa soils formed out of underlying shale along the Kasteelberg mountains.  It is this unique terroir that distinguish the wines of Riebeek Cellars.
Rainfall occurs during winter months with enough cold hours to ensure a proper rest phase for the vines before bud-break in early September.
The summers are sunny and warm with cooling westerly winds that are ideal conditions for producing fine white wines. Made from a blend of various vineyards to capture the best characteristics of each, the Riebeek Sauvignon Blanc is an easy-drinking and accessible white wine for everyday enjoyment.

Made in a definite herbaceous style, this Sauvignon Blanc also offers tropical undertones of gooseberries and ripe citrus that add fruit to the medium-bodied palate. Well-balanced with zesty acids, every glassful is fresh and crisp and perfect for warm summer/fall days. This makes a great apéritif wine or an excellent option to accompany light first courses, ideally fresh salads or seafood. Hard to beat as a late summer/early fall picnic wine with cold cuts, goat cheeses, a crusty baguette and some beautiful mountain scenery. For those planning a fall beach trip this is a must as it loves any white-meated fish, shellfish of all types and is delicious with Carolina shrimp!
