2018 Rural Pinot Noir Eagle Peak AVA, Mendocino, California

We fell in love with this tasty West Coast Pinot Noir at first sip. The medium garnet color leads to a palate brimming with juicy cherry, raspberry, and strawberry. Subtle hints of violet, tea, and forest floor let you know this is classic Pinot Noir! There’s a nice dollop of richness in the middle palate that balances the silky tannins, and an ample beam of freshness and acidity keeps the lengthy finish super-clean. If you’re a Burgundy fan, there’s a lot to like about this one. If you’re already a fan of West-Coast Pinot Noir, this one’s a no-brainer!

I’m thoroughly charmed by the Amarone and Ripasso-like nuance of this wine — especially remarkable from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc!

Domaine Amido Merlot IGP Lirac, France

I’m really glad that the family has continued to produce this gem of a Merlot. I’m sure they could rip out these vines and replant with a much more profitable selection of grapes. Perhaps it’s an homage to the late Christian Amido, or perhaps the family just loves this serious, yet quaffable Merlot as much as I do!
