Braai (pronounced “bry”, rhyming with the word “cry”; plural braais) is Afrikaans for “barbecue” or “roast” and is a social custom in South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. It's a gathering of friends and family that's as much a social gathering as it is a culinary event. They can be simple gatherings or all-out extravagant events, taking days of preparation. They will all, however, center around a wood-fired grill and cooking meats and seafood to perfection.
Our friend Zingo Munger from Cape Classics will be joining us for our 4th South African Braai. Grillmeister Adam Thome from next door at 67 Biltmore will be on board again for his take on authentic Braii fare. Anyone that knows Adam, knows that he's the best in town when it comes to foods from the grill. His Boerewors last year was proclaimed "the best I've had in the U.S." by a South African customer in attendance. If you love grilled cuisine, then this is THE dinner for you!
