What is Street Food? Street food is feel-good food. It's memories of a wonderful place discovered while traveling. It's an expression of a city and the inhabitants and can get as specific as the neighborhood you're walking through or can express the culinary pride of a nation. In larger cities, street vendors can change almost block by block, showcasing the ethnic flavor of that very spot. Most importantly, street food is a lot of fun!
Over the years, Street Food has risen from humble beginnings to practically its own form of culinary art. In some parts of the world, it's as simple as someone on the street with a wood-fired grill, cooking their mother's or grandmother's recipes. In other places, it's prepared by talented chefs who have eschewed brick and mortar restaurants for the great outdoors. In most major US cities, street vendors with carts, hawking hot dogs floating in suspicious liquids, have been replaced by this new army of chefs in food trucks. These chef-driven food trucks utilize state of the art restaurant gear and source the best local and regional ingredients in order to offer an amazing variety of cuisine.
With this in mind, we've tasked our friend Chef Mike Moore of Aux Bar and the Blind Pig Supper Club with creating an evening of "Street Food". It'll be a fun evening of skewered meats and veggies, small bites, and big flavors as Mike puts his deft spin on some of the world's favorite Street Food styles. Here's a first look at the killer menu.
