Château Juvenal Les Garrigues AOP Ventoux Saint-Hippolyte-le-Graveyron, France
Another stunning best-buy from the Alban and Forestier families!
A couple of months ago, I featured the Les Ribes du Vallat from Château Juvenal. It sold out before the week ended, leaving all of us thirsty for more while we patiently endure the wait for the new vintage.
The good news: I’ve secured a supply of another terrific release from the good folks at Château Juvenal. Their 2019 Les Garrigues Ventoux is a perfect example of the quality and value these guys offer. The bonus: it’s even more of a bargain than the Ribes!

Anne-Marie and Bernard Forestier purchased Château Juvenal and its surrounding vineyards in 2001, determined to put the Château on the map as one of the region’s finest estates. In 2011, they merged the property with the Alban family, built a new winery, and focused their attention on Grenache and Syrah-based wines. The families brought rock-star winemaker Philippe Cambie from Châteauneuf-du-Pape onboard as consulting winemaker, completing the formula for greatness.
Like the Ribes du Vallet, Les Garrigues is produced with consulting winemaking legend, Philipe Camby. The blend features 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, sourced from a variety of the family’s best vineyard plots. These 30-50-year-old vines are located on slopes with southern exposure and are harvested manually to ensure perfect ripeness.
If you were a fan of the Ribes du Vallet, you’ll love Les Garrigues. In the glass, you’ll find that same deep red pomegranate color opening to complex aromas of dark cherry, blueberry, red and black currant, and lavender, with the fruit transferring beautifully from the nose to the palate. Black pepper, charcuterie, and plenty of garrigue lead the middle palate to a juicy finish filled with spice and dark fruit. There’s just enough tannin for the dinner table; however, it makes a great casual red-sipper as well.
