Château Thomas Laurent – Superb Bordeaux and excellent value…

Thomas Laurent Bordeaux

A nice glass of Bordeaux is a sure bet to help get one through the doldrums of winter... and there's certainly been no shortage of winter so far this year! Here's a wine that will help chase away the winter blues AND go light on the wallet. When you pull the cork and get this into your glass, I think you'll agree, this is a steal at such a low price. I would put this up against similar properties in Bordeaux that are double or more the cost.

Here at the shop, we often talk about the 2015 vintage and how it's warm dry growing season and harvest helped to produce some great wines all over Europe. Bordeaux was no exception and the 2015 vintage gave us wines with tons of depth, character, and power while still retaining a wonderful balance of acidity and finesse.

You'll find this Château on the right bank of the Gironde, just opposite of world-renowned Château Mouton Rothchild in Pauillac. They certainly enjoy some of the very favorable climate and soil conditions as Pauillac, however, without the high price tags of that region. The Château has been in the Chapron family for four generations and current owner Didier Chapron farms the 17 ha of vineyards in near-natural cultivation (lutte raisonnée), respecting both the environment and tradition. This attention to detail and quality has led to numerous awards at various competitions in Paris, Bordeaux, Vins d'Aquitaine, Mâcon and Vinalies International.

The real joy, of course, is the glass and this blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc opens with a bright, fresh, nose of minerals, cherries, and red berries. Sweet cherry and red currant fruit balance nicely with earthy tones and notes of red licorice., Soft silky tannins lead to a bright expressive finish that leaves you wanting another sip! Pair this with roasted game birds, fillet of beef and any of your winter stews and ragouts. Drink now through 2021.
