Stadt Krems Winery has been a unique part of Austrian wine culture since 1452. It’s one of the oldest existing and operating wineries globally, and remarkably, is owned and managed entirely by the city of Krems. The city’s vineyards are planted on loess, one of the world’s oldest soil formations, formed in the area over three hundred thousand years ago. This mixture of weathered rock and crystalline gravel deposits is the key to the bracing spice and minerality of the region’s Grüner. Since 2003, award-winning winemaker Fritz Miesbauer has been at the helm, focusing his expertise and attention exclusively on the Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.
Stadt Krems Kremstal is a whole lot of Grüner for the money, and if you prefer a little more zip and spice, this is the Grüner for you.

Underneath the vivid green pear and lemon notes on the nose there is a real Mirabelle intensity. The palate adds yeasty creaminess to these notions on a slender but concentrated palate, while salty, peppery highlights enliven that yeasty body. Best Buy.
