Taste the Wines of Colterenzio – Thursday, March 7th, 2013 – Free Tasting – 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Asheville Wine Market

We are excited to announce another educational tasting opportunity for our customers. The twenty years of sharing our wine finds with you has been rewarding in many, many ways and our supplier friends wanted a way to show their gratitude. So what better way than to bring them in when they make their visits and let you get to know them and their wines on a personal basis.

Please welcome Letizia Pasini, export Director for Colterenzio, to Asheville and come and taste their delicious, exciting wines from the Alpine regions of Italy.

This is a drop in, free tasting and we invite you cordially to join us at 5 pm on Thursday, March 7th.

The wines from the hamlet of Colterenzio were favorites of Archduke Sigismund when he resided at Firmiano Castle in the 15th century, though the area was producing fine wines much earlier. Around 15 bC a Roman country gentleman named Cornelius settled here and established his “Cornelianum” wine estate and the first wine culture in the area. The Roman name eventually evolved into “Cornaiano”, the village Colterenzio calls home. The Colterenzio winegrowers’ co-operative was founded by 28 vintners in 1960. Over the years other passionate viticulturalists diversified from micro-zones in the area joined the collective, and today nearly 300 members cultivate approximately 300 hectares of vineyards.

The Colterenzio maxim is to preserve the quality of grapes delivered by vintners, to enhance and perfect the fruit with sensitivity, drawing on decades of traditional experience while embracing modern winemaking technology. The task of establishing a balance between passion, creativity and technology is a daily challenge at Colterenzio: the winemaker works like a composer creating harmonious white, and red wines, which specifically express the nature of the grape variety and its origin. The wines are allowed to mature in both stainless-steel and barriques, enabling the unfolding of their opulence, elegance and finesse.
